ROAD BIKE TOUR ETNA CHALLENGE
This road bike tour to Mount Etna is an organized guided excursion for avid racing bike cyclists.
First of all this full day tour requires a morning start, usually we plan the departure from our base in Giardini Naxos. Certainly it's always possible to arrange an other starting point during the booking process.
After a simple briefing and a bike setup we will be more than ready for your trip to the top!
Start with a little warm-up during the first kilometers. This seafront road will be the longest daily flat part of our ride.
After passing through the town of Fiumefreddo di Sicilia we take the cyclo track named "ma.ci.med", which is 15 meters above sea level at Marina di Cottone. Ride untill the Port of Etna crossing it and beginning to climb from the sea level to Mount ETNA.
Beautiful citrus groves, chestnut trees, famous Sicilian prickly pears and impressive lava flows will surround us.
We pass through such traditional towns as Giarre, Santa Venerina, Zafferana, where we stop to taste the best local products like honey, olive oils, wines and liquors...
Leaving Zafferana we climb the main road until the hightest point of the day - the place called ''Rifuggio Sapienza''.
In this moment we will be at 2000 meter above sea level. Here we make another stop to regain strength and wear a dry jersey or a wind stopper jacket to get ready for a long down hill back to the starting point.
Is it important to pay attention to the following altimetry chart to keep it in mind.
For this reason the physicall fitness of partecipants has to be considered.
Therfore, reaching 2000 meters on Etna volcano with a road bike day tour could be an exciting exercise for pro-rider cyclists!
